DOOM METAL
FROM HELLCHE

Formed in Spain in 2012 and named after the Norse goddess of the underworld, Hela quickly made their mark with the release of their debut album Broken Cross in 2013. Initially available on CD, the album was later pressed on vinyl by Finnish label Svart Records in 2014. Widely praised across the doom metal underground, Broken Cross was hailed as one of the year’s standout releases by numerous blogs and webzines.

2026

After a global pandemic, the arrival of fatherhood, and other trials worthy of their name, Hela returns in 2025, ready to descend once more into the depths with A Reign To Conquer.

A REIGN TO CONQUER is a manifesto against the ephemeral, a work that stands far from trends, with lyrics exploring solitude, mental chaos, and the search for redemption. An album for those who understand that darkness can also be beauty.

2014

In 2014, Hela joined forces with fellow doom band Lodo for a split release through Marchalenta Records and Discos Macarras. Featuring two original ten-minute tracks steeped in funeral doom influences and a cover of Pentagram, the split showcased a darker, heavier side of the band. A special digipack edition was released by Thid I Rex.

2017

October 2017 saw the arrival of their second full-length album, Death May Die. Released on vinyl by Lay Bare Recordings, the album sold out quickly via the band’s Bandcamp. Critics responded with unanimous acclaim, awarding the band their highest ratings to date. Around the same time, Hela paid tribute to My Dying Bride with a haunting cover of For My Fallen Angel, featured in a compilation by doom-metal.com.

2018

In early 2018 Julian Velasco (guitar), Tano Giménez (bass), and Miguel Fernández (drums) chose to continue as a trio, embracing a spirit of constant evolution. This led to Vegvísir, a collection of five tracks that blend ethereal melodies, eerie atmospheres, and melancholic depth. Recorded at Red Records, mixed at Siete Barbas Estudio in Barcelona, and mastered by René Rutten (The Gathering/Habitants), the album was released in November 2019 via Tormo Records. Hela’s journey has always been defined by a commitment to authenticity and emotional honesty, steering clear of trends and embracing transformation. Vegvísir stands as a testament to that ethos.
